Eastward Ho! One of the most wonderful rounds of golf in my short life!

I can only begin to explain how special Eastward Ho! Country Club is. For me, tied with Whistling Straits (which I also played this year with my son Rob) as the most spectacular golf courses I have ever experienced. It seemed like every hole was a painting with a ominous ocean views, massive natural elevation changes, meticulous picturesque landscaping.  Add on top of this, an Indian summer day around Thanksgiving and good friends. I was simply blown away by this hidden gem's beauty.

The International Wrap up

It wasn't pretty... A weekend of misery came down to a $10 blood match side bet for last place in the field with Carnegie Abbey in which we squeaked out a win!  Final results from the cellar... URGH!

Masters invitations for 2012 have already been mailed out.

SCREWED AGAIN!

Saturday : A day in Review

We sucked a bit less as a team with Savoie carrying the team, and me dragging it down. URGH!  We have now moved in to last place tie with Carnegie Abbey... A RI blood match for the cellar.

Final round this morning, I cant wait to get home tonight.

God we SUCKED... and I was the band leader at the head of the freaking parade.

Currently in 73rd place... we might make the cut,...  i mean our throats!

For a pee in your pants funny moment, watch me try to hit a ball, under water, in Lilly pads.  The good news is that I actually got it on the green... the bad news is I did not convert the putt...

I am preparing a Tim Tebow prayer for the first Tee...

... it will start with some love to the golf Gods... PLEASE give us Perry bounces... we are worthy.

Morning ONE, round ONE... The Invitational

Off to our first round this morning... thank god we didn't drink allot last night. Oh no wait, we did... I sit in the family room room, showered, head pounding, waiting for my team to go to breakfast... and not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse... must be the season.

Team Puma plays golf in Tristan Da Cunha

With their mast down on the first leg of the Volvo Ocean Race www.volvooceanrace.com/ , team PUMA's Mar Mostro arrived at the remote island Tristan da Cunha. After safely anchoring the boat, the crew accepted an invitation to play at the Tristan Golf Course.

Bob Savoie invited me to play in an inter-league match along with Dan C and Kyle P that includes his course, Loxahatchee vs. Loblolly & McArthur.  I just discovered there is actually a website to cover the tournament... www.theinvitationalproam.com  and I almost shit!

Rumors are untrue! We are not replacing the lighthouse on our RICC logo with a grub!

Golf is not a game of perfect - Robert J. Rotella

An idea for a tattoo!

Update:
1.      We are teeing off at 10:04 & 10:12  Let plan to arrive around 9:15 at the latest, hit some balls, and be at the first tee for a photo op at 9:50
2.      Please leave time to sign autographs for the fans.
3.      The mandatory shot of something Italian will be at the 9th tee
4.      We will be using Quota Scoring. Bob A will be playing at a 36.   Points will be awarded at the following based on gross scores:   dlb or worse = 0, bogie = 1,  par - 2,  birdie = 4, eagle = 8. You will then subtract a number from your total that will be determined by subtracting your handicap from 36. If I bogie every hole I have 18 points. Since handicap is 19, I would subtract 17 points (figured by subtracting 36-19) from the 18 points, and contribute 1 point to the team score.
5.      Couples dinner will hosted Billy’s house this year. Bill and Bob will do two main courses. David Picc and I will do apps.  Salad, Deserts, Veggie will be assigned to everyone else.  If you have a preference, speak up!
6.      A bottle or two of wine is optional if you want to invited back next year. Not expensive… but not swill! If you need training wheels on this one, speak up for advice!  BTW, If we put your bottle into front of your plate with a straw, you can assume you failed the challenge!
7.      More to come!

I did throw up on my shoes... but we pulled through for Victory! Our team was fantastic, we all plus handicaps at the bar.

Much to talk about. First off RICC won the Donald Ross Cup! Second I was made the unofficial MVP by scoring the most individual points in any match, really! No, really, I made it up, I did score the most points but there was no MVP! But anyway, I using this platform to lobby for all Pots n Pans Players. We demand respect!

Warwick Country Club was beautiful.  I have never played. The ocean scenery and magnificently sloped and racing greens were such a treat to play on. The only unusual thing is that Warwick has grass on their course. Grass, wow, how usual!  Its small, thin, and green, and apparently grows abundantly. I wonder why Donald Ross decided to cover our course with a sand and weeds over a grub farm.

Well, it turned into an incredibly tight match.  We just edging out the host club Warwick by 2 1/2 points.  The members were wonderful hosts!

Me, I got some help from partner Craig Fisher on Monday afternoon.  After a complete psycho-analysis he postulated that all my golf problems were directly related to the way I impose self inflicted pressure on myself during a match, to a point where my sphincter tightens and prevents a smooth and properly connected golf swing. He had three thoughts to relax me.  First, an elephant sized quantity of Michael Jackson brand propofol. Second, an intravenous drip of 2001 Pride Claret.  Third, a bowl of Grub Chowder! I went with all three and it really did make me relax, and it really did make a difference.  I hope his services are covered by Blue Cross.

So here is the scoring. I played 3 matches against three people from three clubs at the same time. 1 point for the front, 1 point for the back, 2 points for the total match. 4 points per match x 3 matches equals 12 possible points. Of the 6 nine hole matches I won one by 3, and 5 matches by only one point.  Think about it...down to one freaking point in 5 matches!  SO... FU to all you pricks that think I am a sandbagger.  I am simply a golf mental patent.

Finally, I was given the Donald Ross Trophy to display in my home for my 12 points.  My response to that, three fold; eventually the blind squirrel finds a nut... and second, calling hours are 4-6pm... and finally, Cheryl, sorry about the racing stripes in the tighty whities.

If you cant purchase tickets to see the trophy before its sold out... here is a pic...  set wonderfully in a pots and pans motif!

Please dont throw up on my shoes.

Donald Ross cup is today. We will play three individual matches against a player from Warwick, Agawam, and Metacomet CC.  Each match is worth 4 points.  1 point is awarded for the front 9, 1 for the back and 2 for the overall.

Who me nervous?  URGH!

Reminder: Order new tighty whities!

I was just invited to participate in the Donald Ross Cup for the second year in a row. This is where four clubs, all designed by Donald Ross, compete in eight man teams, head to head, for the trophy.   I was invited last year, did pretty well,  but went through more bvd's than golf balls.  Link to that nightmare is here http://mygolfnightmare.blogspot.com/2010/10/nightmare-on-main-street-my-first-hole.html

This year is at Warwick Country Club I will bring more tighties!

Talk about a newspaper victory...

... I stumbled home yesterday with an ugly 94... (thank god there were not cameras), but 4 pars on the back nine combined with Dan Cregan's round to post the best two ball score of 64. I can't say that made me feel any better about my front nine 50!  URGH!

Why Men don't play golf with their wives

The husband reluctantly agreed to play in the couples alternate shot tournament at his club. He teed off on the first hole, a par four, and blistered a drive 300 yards down the middle of the fairway.

Upon reaching the ball, the husband said to his wife, "Just hit it toward the green, anywhere around there will be fine."

The wife proceeded to shank the ball deep into the woods.

Undaunted, the husband said "That's ok sweetheart." He then spent the next ten minutes looking for the ball. He finally found it, but in a horrible position. He played the shot of his life, and got the ball within two feet of the hole!

"Just tap it in now, honey." he said to his wife.

She then proceeded to knock the ball past the hole, off the green, and into a bunker!

Still maintaining his composure, the husband summoned all of his skill and holed the shot from the bunker ! He retrieved the ball and, while walking off the green, put his arm around his wife and said, very calmly, "Honey, that was a bogey five, and that's OK, but I think we can do better on the next hole."

To which she replied, " Listen asshole, don't bitch at me, only 2 of those 5 shots were mine ! "

The good, the bad, and the VERY ugly!

So two weeks ago we had our RICC fall member member.

The good. Craig Fisher and myself played seven 9 hole rounds in 2 1/2 days and we won our division. Further exciting was that I won a Titelist 3w during a raffle the first night, I won a single net skin with a chip on 15 for a 3 for 2, I won money for our division, and more money for para mutual bet on  myself and two other friends.

Now the bad. The last 2 holes I had a mental breakdown... pumping ball after ball out of bounds, and crawling to the finished line.  Craig's shoulders were strong!

Now the ugly.  We came back to the club house to watch the scores get posted with a big ass Guinness.  I was still in comatose mental state. After three long days of golf I just wanted to go home.  I thanked Craig (never actually said good bye), collected my winnings, jumped in my car, and scooted home as fast as I possible could. About 5 minutes after arriving home, lying in peace on my bed, the phone rings.  Its Craig,   "David, where are you? You picked my up this morning.... remember?"

What a total douche bag move!

We are still friends...

Rob & I at Kohler...

Whistling Straits was the nicest golf course that I have ever played, passing Torrey Pines and the Ocean Course at Kiawah. Yes, that good.  Further, it was the most enjoyable round of golf I have ever played, with Rob. A remarkable experience.

Pictures are coming.

Shit out of luck!

I am supposed to be taking my son Rob on a quick golf trip leaving Wednesday going to the Ocean Course in Kiawah (outside of Charlestown), Hilton Head, and Sea Island!  And now this!
